The Else Kröner Fresenius Center for (EKFZ) for Digital Health at TU Dresden and University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden focuses its research activities on innovative, medical and digital technologies at the direct interface with patients. The aim here is to fully exploit the potential of digitalization in medicine to significantly and sustainably improve healthcare, medical research and clinical practice. TUD/EKFZ contributes to the BRIDGE project by supporting the creation of a trustworthy, future-oriented framework for digital health innovation and regulation in Europe. The team supports the development of ethical, legal, and data protection frameworks that ensure emerging technologies and AI-driven health solutions comply with EU standards such as the GDPR, MDR/IVDR, and AI Act. Through collaboration with academic, industrial, and regulatory partners, TUD/EKFZ supports the design of modular sandbox architectures and data flow models that ensure interoperability, transparency, and compliance with European regulations such as the GDPR and European Health Data Space. The team also contributes to developing policy recommendations that will guide the safe and effective implementation of regulatory sandboxes across Europe. With its interdisciplinary background, TUD/EKFZ plays a key role in ensuring that innovation in healthcare remains responsible, patient-centered, and evidence-based.
Role in the project
TUD/EKFZ serves as a contributing partner in the Horizon scanning, sandbox architecture, and policy development activities of BRIDGE. The team provides regulatory science and data governance expertise to support the integration of ethical, legal, and operational insights across work packages. Through this role, TUD/EKFZ helps ensure that Europe’s next-generation regulatory sandboxes are scientifically robust, transparent, and future-ready.
